Our Sustainability Mission

Protecting the environment and promoting sustainability is our responsibility. Therefore, we are committed to the following principles:

Environmentally Friendly Work Methods

We use advanced technologies and methods that respect the environment and minimize the impact on the natural surroundings. When cleaning drainage pipes, we opt for eco-friendly cleaning agents that do not contain harmful chemicals.

Energy Efficiency

We aim to reduce our energy consumption by implementing energy-saving measures in all our business processes. We invest in a modern fleet of vehicles that meets strict environmental standards and, where possible, uses alternative fuels.

Sustainable Materials

Where possible, we use sustainable materials that meet high environmental standards and reduce the use of harmful substances. The materials we use for the installation and repair of sewage systems consist of recycled PVC. We also strive to maximize water reuse in our operations, such as recycling water during cleaning processes.

Education & Awareness

We are committed to informing and involving our employees and customers about sustainable practices and the importance of environmental protection. For example, we advise on ways our customers can save water and energy in their daily routines, such as reducing water consumption while showering or using programmable thermostats.

Fact

Did you know that by regularly maintaining pipes, leaks and other problems can be detected and resolved early. This not only helps to save water but also prevents unnecessary water loss that can lead to waste and property damage.

What can you do yourself?

Increasing rainfall also brings greater challenges.

While rain is good for plants, too much rain combined with a faulty sewage system can cause problems. Given the ongoing global warming, this is a crucial point of attention, as we will increasingly experience heavy rainfall. How reliable is your sewage system? Is wastewater already separated from rainwater at the drain? And are the pipes made from durable materials?

Creating a sustainable sewage system at home involves various aspects, from saving water to reducing pollution. Here are some steps you can take to create a more sustainable sewage system at home:

  • Install water-saving appliances: Install water-saving toilets, faucets, and showerheads. These devices reduce water consumption per flush or per minute, not only saving water but also reducing the amount of wastewater discharged into the sewer system.

  • Collect rainwater: Consider installing a rainwater harvesting system to collect and use rainwater for tasks such as watering the garden or flushing the toilet. This reduces the demand for tap water and lessens the strain on the sewage system during rain showers.

  • Use eco-friendly cleaning products: Choose environmentally friendly cleaning products that do not contain harmful chemicals. This way, you reduce the amount of pollutants that enter the sewer system when cleaning your home.

  • Prevent blockages: Do not dispose of grease, oil, food scraps, disposable wipes, or other materials down the sink or toilet that can cause blockages. Use a compost bin for food waste and dispose of grease and oil in a sealable container for recycling.

  • Maintain your sewage system: Ensure your sewage system is regularly maintained to prevent blockages and leaks. Have professional inspections carried out to detect and resolve any issues early on.

  • Invest in green infrastructure: Consider installing green roofs, rain gardens, or permeable paving to retain and absorb rainwater on-site instead of directing it to the sewer system. This can help reduce flooding and improve water quality.

By following these steps, you can contribute to a more sustainable sewage system at home, which not only reduces environmental impact but can also lead to long-term cost savings. Are you considering installing a new sewage system, or do you want to replace your current one with a more sustainable alternative? Or are you simply looking for someone to take care of the maintenance of your sewage system? Rioolbeheer Nederland is the right place for advice and implementation.

Fact

Another sustainable option is installing a rainwater toilet, which can be seamlessly integrated into an eco-friendly sewage system. The toilet can be connected to special pipes linked to a rainwater tank, placed under or next to the house, where all rainwater from the roof is collected via the downspout. This rainwater tank, also known as a rain barrel, supplies water to various points in the house. A significant advantage of using rainwater for flushing the toilet is that it is free of limescale and incurs no extra costs. Moreover, in the Netherlands, there is usually sufficient rainwater available, ensuring the tank is almost always full.
